As I think of the people, conversations, experiences and challenges that have filled my past year, I am grateful for the numerous times I have been inspired and encouraged.
I am thankful for the moments with friends when I’ve laughed until my stomach ached. The times I’ve shared enriching conversations. The visits to places, both commonplace and extraordinary, close to home and far away, where I have been amazed by the trivial and the profound. The moments I have been filled with raw emotions, the full gamut from love to grief, reminding me again and again of how lucky I am to be alive. I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me as a person, including the challenging times when I’ve stepped back from the busyness of life and allowed myself time to heal, to be still and quiet.
Albert Schweitzer, a physician, philosopher, theologian and the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952, succinctly described the significant role played by people, especially our loved ones, in our lives.
‘At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.’
I hope the end of this year, and the beginning of the new, is a time of happiness, delight and inspiration for you and your loved ones. Most of all, I hope you will enjoy a year of marvellous ways in 2024.
